EC创新的追求 is a brand new, year-long program in which randomly-grouped teams of first-year and second-year students from all academic interests create innovative technology products designed to address a social justice issue or engage with the local community in a meaningful and productive way. Students will present their projects on Distinction Day in the spring, and those who complete the program will receive an honorarium toward their following year's tuition.

          为什么?

Service and social justice have always played pivotal roles in Emmanuel’s approach to education. With the rise of technology across the spectrum of the workplace and academia, innovative, student-driven solutions to issues that affect our communities can have an even greater and more far-reaching impact.

Today’s employers are looking for graduates who are curious and confident, resourceful and resilient. The future of work is filled with the great unknown—researchers predict that 85% of the jobs that will exist in 2030 haven’t even been invented yet. Across industries, the evolving workplace demands the skills and competencies fostered best through hands-on experience, such as creative thinking, problem solving and working well in teams. Start developing those competencies now. Students will also receive skill badges for ECLearn to credential their new skills.

Participating teams will engage with mentors from the faculty, staff and alumni, who will offer seminars on special topics such as entrepreneurship, market research and user testing, project management and design. These “champions” will serve as a crucial resource, developing a personal working relationship with their teams outside of the traditional classroom setting.

Students will also have access to tools and software, including MIT’s App Inventor, tablets, self-study courses and Emmanuel’s new 发现yLab (complete with 3D printers and other makerspace equipment) to help conceptualize and execute their ideas. No experience is necessary to join the program.

          关于麻省理工学院应用发明

MIT App Inventor is an intuitive, visual programming environment that allows all individuals to build fully functional apps. The program’s blocks-based tool inspires intellectual and creative empowerment and facilitates the creation of complex, high-impact apps in significantly less time than traditional programming environments.

The MIT App Inventor project seeks to democratize software development by empowering all people to move from technology consumption to technology creation—and to drive valuable social impact in their communities.
